Full stack hacker for YC S13 predictive analytics startup
We’re a YC-backed startup looking to disrupt the way products are made. We’re building a platform that (1) introduces massive amounts of data to a production process currently relying heavily on guesswork and (2) enables our users to get access to products before they hit the market at a discounted price.
We’re tackling a $10b problem in the retail/manufacturing industry, and we’re working with brands that have a keen focus on design (clothing, home products, furniture, electronics, etc.). In doing this, we’re also developing a unique method of ‘subjective’ profiling based on the design interests of users over time. If Facebook is a source of one’s objective qualities (age, gender, etc.), we want to become the source of one’s subjective qualities (sense of aesthetic, lifestyle, taste in clothing, etc.).
We build fast and are obsessed with design.
Some of the things we’re working on:
1. An analytics page that can segment thousands of votes by various parameters in the most efficient way possible. Each unit of data we work with has a large number of columns that need to be manipulated on the fly.
2. Early implementation of a machine learning algorithm to detect and understand the preferential patterns of users and apply it to the core product (delivering these insights within the analytics page, serving more specific content to users).
3. Building out a well-designed content interface for designers and brands to share their stories and enhance the core product.
4. Cross-domain tool for brands to use our technology on their properties (see Stripe or Gumroad) – especially in context of e-commerce tools such as Shopify, Magento, and BigCommerce
We’re looking for someone who:
1. Has a deep interest in predictive analytics and subjective profiling
2. Cares about solving a widespread problem in a somewhat archaic industry (retail)
3. Cares deeply about well-designed products (not only our application but also the brands we choose to work with)
4. Is fluent in HTML/CSS/JavaScript, JQuery, Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, Heroku, and AWS products
5. Has an interest in machine learning
6. Learns fast by building and deploying – we pick up languages/frameworks within a few days and ship a few days later
We haven’t launched yet, so we don’t want to reveal too much. If you’re interested, please send us an email (jobs@crowdery.com) with the subject “Crowdery HN Job Post”, and please include a resume, link to your GitHub, and your favorite snack in the email body.
