No One Needs Us Anymore [video]
youtube.comThat's pretty mind bending. Catchy though.
Also just discovered there is an entire subreddit full of this genre
I love programming, and I like to think I'm a great programmer, but I'll probably never do it again because if I spent all day trying to write something a robot could do in a few seconds I'm pretty sure I'd get fired. Sure, I can do it "for fun" but that's just not the point guys.
First, it isn't a few seconds. It's a few seconds + the time it takes you to review the code to make sure it is correct. Second, in my experience I write the code no slower than the time it takes an LLM + the time to review it. Sometimes I'm faster, and my code is certainly better. The only thing where LLMs actually provide a boost is snippets which are so trivial that I can review them almost instantly, and which I can read but would be laborious to write (like bash scripts).
My experience has been the opposite: LLMs write overly verbose code that could be a few lines in bash, but can whip out a stellar custom mtls reverse proxy in Python stdlib in a heartbeat that is a breeze to validate.
How long do you think that will last? Because it hasn't even been a year since Opus 4.5 came out and really started this.
