The AI Pascal's Wager
ploum.netI appreciate the author and his post, but the pro's and con's seems really a confirmation biais. Note that I do agree on the part that it will cost users and contributors to use AI. What I think is biais is the technical consequence. I genuinely ask how backed is the "AI does not help productivity". This is stated as a truth while we are only starting to discover how to use it, including guardrail, review system where durability (understand ownership of the source) is the goal. This can be viewed differently, "ethic"/environment set apart. New technology emerges, the community explores methods and overall the evaluator is time that measures durability and engagements. Short-term costs are the reject of exploiter (the ones that does not explore) and cost of exploration. So, for the productivity, the best strategy would be to explore partly, not being all exploiter of current method.
Ha, I thought it was going to be the bet of trying to move as fast as possible with high volumes of AI generated code where the hope is that the AI itself will simply advance so rapidly as to make otherwise "maintainability challenged" code something that doesn't need to be considered.
