Ask HN: How does a solo employee ensure the continuation of their company?
How does a solo entrepreneur ensure customers have continuity in their absence? Are there any organizations that act as insurance that can hold the keys and if the need arises initiate a sale or takeover managing the code as a service?
I remember an old comment by patio11, but I can't find it. to;df:
<fake quote>*It's impossible. Get a death insurance for your family and if you can train a technical friend to keep the lights on for 3 months until your costumers can transition to another service.</fake quote>
Edit: I'm wondering if I hallucinated my fake quote.
The closest I can find is this discussion https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33409891 but it does NOT contain what I remember. Interesting and with some links to patio11 anyway.
You need to find a successor. Train them and prepare for an eventual handoff. They become a partner first.
