Yikes example.com has changed to run JavaScript

3 points by danhite · 4 comments · 1 min read

I used to trust that example.com was safe inert noscript so I am a bit shocked at this change not being pure CSS

see example.com/s.js

Sorry, please note that HN does not allow me to link to example.com for your click convenience, Dang it!

OMG you posted this 11 minutes before I did on r/webdev, for the first time in my life I almost thought I was the first to post about something haha

    sorry!

BTW, it took me more than 11 minutes fighting HN's mysterious rejection criteria, in order to be able to say anything here.

Also someone recently posted this thread with lots of HN comments, in case you haven't seen it : https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49971921

Lastly, when I posted 6 days ago re example . com the new html and js were over verbose garbage (machine made) and are now merely soso (disturbing to see churn even if I prefer the clean up). Pity I didn't archive the yucky one.

Next thing you know they put up an image on example.com. An image. On example dot com!

The website still loads and renders text without js enabled. The JavaScript only appears to cycle the text through multiple translations. I suppose you could do most of this with pure CSS, but what’s the point?

I think if you want to depend on a “safe inert noscript” website for your purposes, you should put up a webpage for it yourself and use that.
