TSA is rolling out a new scanner – it could be a headache for carry-on travelers

Terminal A & B at EWR has had those CT scanners since 2024.

Their much nicer than the old style ones. Their faster and there's no need to remove any items from the bag, everything can just go through as-is, laptop and all so it makes the prep area before the scanners much less congested waiting for people to fumble about trying to remove things.

No idea why the article says they they "could be" a headache due to their opening size because, as the article notes, any bag that's compliant with the airline carry-on size will fit just fine. Anything larger needs to be a checked bag anyway. It's only anecdotal but I've never seen anyone have an issue with them at EWR.

These have pretty much finished roll out to locations where they will be used. There is a limited supply of these devices and installations may still be happening, but not at scale, and even if the roll out were happening at scale it would b an improvement. These devices reduce inconvenience where they are deployed.
