only for state law enforcement officials (and apparently their families)? and there's no equivalent protection for normal people? that's super fucking lame.

    Sometimes these rules lead to good privacy results in general. At least when I was there, California prevented counties from sharing property information about elected officials online, but it's hard to know who is an elected official, so most counties just didn't make that information available online.
