Making software hurts now

One thing AI seems to have broken is the old assumption that if someone submits code they probably understand it and can own it. And now maintainers need to verify both the code and whether the contributor actually understands what they are submitting. That extra trust check might be part of why open source feels more hostile these days.

The pressures he cites are real but the conclusions are not.

- No one forces you to actively promote AI like Ted Ts'o or Linus. No one forces you to say "it is just a tool", "the ones that were fired were overhired during COVID" etc.

- Contributing to open source with AI is not "a gift", it is selfish, lazy and for your personal brand.

- You can oppose AI by trusted means that politicians have used for millenia. No active resistance is needed. You pretend to embrace the tech and then find unfortunate difficulties.
