Is OpenAI that desperate for media coverage? 24 months from now, outrageous PR stunts like this will look embarrassing next to the demeanor of Z.AI, DeepSeek and Qwen.

    This is damage control, not a PR stunt. They spammed someone's wiki without telling anyone, but then it was discovered and traced back to them. Now that it's in the news, they need to put out some kind of statement.

      It's a PR stunt masquerading as damage control. "Oh no, you ignored our safety warnings so we manufactured a minor catastrophe to prove you wrong!"

      OpenAI desperately wants to take the initiative in defining 'alignment' so they can villainize open models and regulate the rest of their competition. The whole reason they publicly acknowledge this is because it's one of the only pieces of evidence vindicating their extremist take on LLM development.
