Ask HN: Particularly does a leg injury affect your quality of life
Recently had an accident, where my left foot was stepped on by a car's tyre, and it broke my ankle and leg bone(fibular and malleolus bone to be exact), now my ankle bone(malleolus) headed displaced and I have been asked to have surgery 4 months after the incident, this has made everything in my life come to an abrupt halt, and has made me start wondering how people with leg impediments(serious enough to require crutches, prosthetics or wheel chair) cope, I have come to realize that proper mobility is a very essential part of human life.
I would say all injuries affect one's quality of life. It's a matter of how much.
Yeah this is true, as most injuries affect strength which in turn affects mobility.
PS. Try to put 110% effort into your rehab, it will pay dividends. I did and my pelvis is pretty much good as new, albeit will screws and plates!
5 years ago I broke my pelvis and wrist both on the right side. The pelvis break meant no weight bearing for 3 months and the right wrist meant using a forearm crutch on that side. After 10 days in hospital I spent another 3 weeks in rehab and then a friend let me stay til the end of the 12 weeks so that I wasn't alone because it was very debilitating. I suggest you prepare well and get your ducks all in a row rather than hoping it all just turns out well. Good luck.
Damn that must have hurt, and yeah I will definitely take rehab seriously.
