Hi HN! I made my first iOS app - users can swap out an ex or friend for someone else in their photo library.

I did this as a bit of a lark. I hope you find it entertaining, at least. At its most serious, it’s a Black Mirror-esque note on the future we’re enabling in the AI age. It’s not an app I’d ever use or recommend people use.

I suppose that’s the question I’m asking myself, and now you, with this - while I intentionally built something I wouldn’t want to see in the world, how are you dealing with the feeling that software you build is or isn’t making the world a better place?

What a weird time to be alive!

So it is a weird time to be alive, though I must ask for clarification: why would you build something you yourself wouldn’t want to see in the world? Profit? Attention?

Not to be too critical, but this appears to go beyond just a satirical PoC.

I can’t say that I expect any profit from this. (I’d be shocked if anyone spent money on it, and I lose money every time someone uses the free credits).

It’s an art project - a provocation. Beyond a PoC is flattery it truly doesn’t deserve imo

This is definitely weird...you hit the mark. I think making the world a better place is the deepest ideal of an AI evolution. To have time to try to make things better, to focus on the things you would want to do instead of the things you have to do.

I'm not sure trying to re-imagine your past with someone else is really ever a good idea. We get to where we are by the road we travel. But hey...a funny face swap can always be good for a laugh.

do you have more apps like that? satirical-type apps?
