Ask HN: Where else do you spend time on the internet other than HN?
As you become more familiar with internet you kind of advance through sites and habits and grow up. I've ended up on HN as the most interesting site currently, but I am starting to look for more. I'm not personally a programmer but like the adjacent discussion here sometimes. Thanks
I have graduated to not using the internet when at all possible. Its mostly been hijacked by large corporations whose only goal is you spending as much time scrolling as possible.
I hang out on various entrepreneurial Reddit subreddits, both to get an idea for what people are building, problems they are having, and occasionally post about my own pain; and also to promote my own product. Every now and then I'll lurk in subreddits that are just stuff I'm interested in too.
I've also gone back to X/Twitter quite heavily (but trying to limit usage and avoid posting in anything politics related). It's hard not to get sucked into it.
Then occasionally sites like the Guardian for general news.
Hi entrepreneurial Reddit subreddits, like what? Can you post them?
Ty
Over the years I've used the internet less and less, HN is one of the few places I still spend my time.
Would people who have "outgrown HN" even be here to read or answer your question?
True. Updated question.
Reddit, github, instagram, quora Beautiful thing internet is
Honestly, gravitating more towards books and less internet
IMO you can only get so much out of bite-sized content, if you want real understanding you have to engage in deep long-form content
What kind of books do you read? Second question, what are some of your favorite books you've read that you'd recommend?
I design and decorate my own homepage
Sometimes dev.to and reddit
longreads.com, my RSS feeds in NetNewsWire, and podcasts mostly
YouTube, Reddit, Discord, my own websites and forums, and various wikis and news sites for hobbies I'm interested in.
Generally most of the sites I use are volunteer run and operated (mostly) non-commercially, so enshittification is unlikely.
