Right now, the title I see (on the article) is "Russia bars anti-war party from parliamentary election".

Maybe SCMP is A/B testing AI clickbait in their titles? Russia being Russia, the liberals would be banned for mis-trimmed toenails, if nothing more interesting could be found or fabricated.

Going to the elections with the anti-war slogans is what got them banned.

Putin can't let that sentiment get broadcasted during election campaign because sadly "anti-war" currently means "let's make a temporary truce and give the West time to rearm and rebuild Ukrainian army for the next round".

There's going to be a next round? Have russians lost all sense of what's embarrassing? Is one ass-kicking with 500k fatalities and an economy held together by nabiullina duct tape not enough? I guess russia just needs to collapse every 100 years..

In a real democracy the people decide what can be said, not the autocrat. That's what the election if for. Putin should make his case, not ban opposition.

This means there are very few real democracies in the world especially during the war.

Think of Snowden and Assange, for example. They had a lot to say and show, but one big democracy didn't like it

Russia really other political parties besides Putin?
