Ask HN: .music Domain Owners – Govt ID is required?
I recently bought a .music domain and when I did in May or June I don't recall my register service saying I will need to upload my government ID.
I have been working on my .music project through this month and was ready to publish it on the web when I received an email from support@register.music (did research & it looks legit tho maybe not).
I wondered those who have .music domains did you have to do this same thing and or has this email address contacted you later requesting your ID? You apparently signed a waver saying you accepted this process[2], verfication from id.music: https://www.id.music/ starting on the webpage: https://verify.music/ (via Porkbun[2]) > - Starting April 1, 2026, newly registered .MUSIC domains are immediately active for use. Domains registered before this date will be placed on serverHold until verification is completed. > - Private registration is not allowed due to the Music Verification policies. > - The Music Nexus policy remains in full effect; you must complete the simple Music Nexus Checkbox during registration. > - The registry will send an email to registrants about identity verification at ID.MUSIC. > - Though verification is required, registrants have up to one (1) year from registration to complete the verification process. Also, I've seen recently AI companies asking for Govt ID to use their services. This is a new phenomenon that consumers are accepting? Consumers don’t have a choice besides opting out. I love how they're based out of Cyprus. Has anyone verified them?
