Ask HN: How can I reliably/safely sell my high cost item (M3 Ultra 512 GB)?

I have an M3 ultra mac studio with 512 GB of memory. I want to sell it, but there appears to be no way to sell it without exposing myself to buyer fraud.

I know all the ways that eBay sellers can get scammed and even local purchases can be scammed via reversed Venmo or Zelle payments. Even cashiers checks can be fake.

Given the high cost of the Mac studio ($20,000 or more) are there no online or local platforms that protect both buyers and sellers from fraud?

I'd be interesting in buying it through an escrow service such as escrow.com if its still available.

Thanks, --Chris

You’ll probably want to use an escrow service. eBay used to and probably still does integrate with a couple reputable ones.

Alternatively, sell to a reputable third party that buys and sells secondhand. For Macs, OWC comes to mind.

Any local computer shops willing to consignment sell for a percentage?
