Tell HN: Maybe HN needs a "Cope HN" category
Lately, a significant portion of the HN front page feels less like technology discussion and more like collective venting about AI.
Not thoughtful skepticism about specific models, products, incentives, or technical limitations — that’s valuable. I mean the repetitive emotional exhaustion posts:
“I’m tired of AI” “I miss talking to real people” “Everything is AI slop now” “AI ruined the internet” “Nobody wants this” “I’m exhausted by AI everywhere”
At a certain point, these threads stop being technology discussion and start becoming group therapy sessions for people struggling with the direction the industry is heading.
The odd thing is that AI is now a foundational shift affecting nearly every part of software and the internet. Whether people like it or not, it’s not going away. So seeing the front page repeatedly dominated by variations of the same emotional backlash feels increasingly unproductive.
Half-seriously, maybe these discussions deserve their own category: “Cope HN.”
Not to ban them — just to separate emotional processing from technical discussion, building, research, and actual experimentation.
PS: If you read this entire post and your main takeaway is: “THIS IS AI GENERATED.” “Look, em dashes.” “Bullet points.” “X-to-Y analogy structure.” “I can detect GPT writing.”
…then you might actually be proving the point better than I could.
