I think the Opinion might be onto something. Reddit is a particularly conforming model of social media. The karma and the community moderation creates incentives to play by the rules.

But, the latter two points aren't really about Reddit or training data at all. They're about model alignment and social epistemology. Much broader issues. It just feels disjointed.

Yes, I do agree. But my long standing frustrations with Reddit came to the Surface with this OpenAI article. My thoughts reflect on how we are soon to be subjected to the whims of the LLM masters when it comes to conformity.

I posted a project a few months ago to a niche hobby subreddit and was dismissively criticized as using an AI and being unable to write my own paragraphs. Once that comment got more likes it just snowballed into insults, hate, and threats.

I was never big about reddit anyway but now I will definitely never interact with that site again.

It is very challenging that the moderation and rule making is more arbitrary that you would believe from community rules.

There is an upper limit to how how much creativity groups will tolerate.

It pops out of the Explore-Exploit Tradeoff. So we end up with separate spaces like academia, labs, studios etc. See how the story ends for Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Galileo etc. Tale as old as time.

i called out a big account (top 1% commenter) for promoting a product and got downvoted to a point where i had to delete the comment. wouldn't be wrong to assume this pattern happpens all over reddit.
