Ask HN: Can AI free us from horrible checkbox feedback forms?

I don't often fill in feedback forms because they never allow a proper answer. I did one recently for a service I received for free and felt obliged to give back. In one question there were about 15 options. Not one applied.

Please can we have "How did you feel about this service?", with follow up questions if needed. If it fills in the same form behind the scenes I don't care. Just let me express what I need to say.

I am not a great AI fan, but this would genuinely make life better.

I cynically suspect the reason for the checkbox feedback forms is because they don't really want the input or to make any changes based upon it, they just need to appear to be responsive to feedback.

If that were the case, you could make a better argument that the opposite would be true. Open text field where you can vent and nobody ever reads it. Checkboxes indicate an attempt to categorize and understand problems.

Physical comment cards you put into a box are often for this purpose.
