theatlantic.comIs anyone surprised? There is this inexplicable affinity between Trump and Putin. It's genuinely baffling, since it serves him very poorly (there is strong support for Ukraine in the US). What do you make of it is up to you, whether it's just his general admiration for dictators or something else. Ukraine is absolutely right to go its own way, with or without American support. Fortunately, the EU appears to stand firm, at least for now.

I don't know. Maybe he'd attack Russian proxies in the middle east, that have killed large numbers of their citizens during recent protests, like Iran.

He's probably not lucid enough to even know _why_ he granted a nice shiny federal pardon to the guy who funded Federal Grant No. R01AI110964 through the NIH to Ecohealth Alliance for research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. But the rest of you seem to be equally OK with ignoring why that happened, so I dunno. Maybe I'll take you seriously about Iran as a result?
Trump is not a Russian agent, he is too stupid for that. Instead of using weapons and monetary support as leverage towards Ukraine to favor Russia, he has voluntarily given it up during 2025 and then US negotiators are surprised that it is hard to force Ukraine to do anything because there is no leverage towards Ukraine.
On the other hand EU has massive leverage on Ukraine because they are effectively keeping them fighting, but Russia won't even engage with EU for whatever reason, instead they are negotiating with USA to get a deal, which can't be enforced because USA lost leverage long time ago.
The question is, what would Trump do differently if he were a Russian agent or asset.
The answer is, not a whole lot.
