Ask HN: Where can my story live? Everywhere feels like an empty room

1 points by arc_light 12 days ago · 7 comments · 1 min read

I have a story and a product I believe in, but I’m struggling to find the right space for them. In such a hyper-tech world, I still can’t seem to find the right medium to share my message. Everywhere I try, it feels like I’m just talking to myself in an empty room.

You can post it here. After posting, add a comment explaining you are the author, so people is friendlier. In the best case, you will get a lot of unrequested feedback, it's a tough crowd.

Is it the story about the square? Usually technical stories with a few relevant photos or graphics get more traction, but it's hard to guess what the hivemind will upvote.

Take a look at https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html and https://news.ycombinator.com/newsfaq.html . You may repost it a few times, wait a few days, but beware that reposting it too many times will get people annoyed and they may flag your post.

Speech is free, listening is priceless.

But seriously I have tried to market quite a few things and the normal condition is that people are indifferent and you have to work about 25x harder than you think [1] to get people's attention. Maybe 1 time in 10 or less you have something that resonates with people and that they get excited about.

[1] not hyperbole!

Well, it depends on what your product is. (I presume your story is about the product being useful.)

If it's your product, and it's a tech product, it might be appropriate for "Show HN". If you do, though, the tone should be "hey, you might find this interesting", rather than a sales job.

If the product solves a problem, you might find a Reddit sub about the problem.

Beyond that... I don't know.
