The Road to NfSensei
blog.nfsensei.orgLet's go Scott!!
Alessandro here, from Italy. I'm 52, started with Z80 programming, then C64 with my cousins (we developed a couple of videogames for fun), then Amiga (what a machine), then the first PC, then networking, etc.
Spent all my life in IT, in any imaginable role.
Just wanted to let you know that I loved pfSense, but I hated netgate, so I switched OPNsense long time ago. Since a couple of years, I really thought that BSD was not the right choice anymore, for several reasons (pppoe, drivers, etc.)
Can't wait to test nfSensei. It will be an amazing project!!
It will be a beautiful adventure, can't wait.
Thanks man.
Looking forward to it. Another child of the 80s home computer revolution (as was I, in the UK). UK here - BBC micro then the infamous Amiga - as you mentioned in the blog this was a real OS - device drivers & shared libraries being another important aspect
Glad to say I've stuck with *nix most of my professional life, and more latterly open source.
I use opnsense, which of course has it's origins in pfsense. it's a great project, but I have annoyances with FreeBSD - ppp, and the python framework so excited to see what your new development brings.
I'm also another seasoned software engineer now using AI full time - in fact as I sit here during some vacation time the screen next to me is working on a rust-based project - I'm much more a fan of type-safe languages! But I am mostly an agent supervisor now ;-)
Hoping the project goes well & look forward to trying out, and if it fits into my environment ok, hopefully be able to contribute too (in the free microseconds in the working day lol)
You also mentioned in the blog about redhat linux -- oh yes.. I remember the early slackware. I was using a microchannel system at the time, so one of the first steps was trying to build (some coding) a scsi driver for microchannel... !
Congrats! let's go ;-)
Let’s go !!!
