The UK depends on natural gas as most people get heating and hot water at home from gas boilers.
As I type this comment your link also shows that 30% of electricity right now is being generated from gas turbines. So that's a hard dependency for electricity, too.
Lastly, as you mention gas prices also set the price of electricity so a spike in gas prices impacts everyone [1]

ok fair enough. i dont live in the uk, and when i'm there, I am in a 100% elec house. I forget the dependency of households on a direct gas connection.
