The article incorrectly conflates Hybrid with Plug-in-Hybrid.

I think the article ignores that Hybrids often use high economy engines e.g. Atkinson Cycle in the 2006 Toyota Hybrid I had.

A Prius really does use less petrol even if never plugged in to charge. That's why taxis use them in NZ.
