Solution to HN getting overwhelmed problem
These days I go to new/ and it is overwhelming. Large quantity of low quality submissions.
Proposed solution: limit submissions to accounts with >X karma (eg. 500 karma) OR older than Y years (eg 5 years).
Both of these scale into the future as one can reach both conditions without ever submitting (eventually). The week of 02-23 to 03-01 had 5033 story posts that aren't dead or deleted from 3298 different users. Of these 1146 users have 500 or more karma. Of these 1548 were created over 5 years ago. Of these 966 users have both 500 or more karma and have created their account over 5 years ago. Your filter would reduce the number of posts to 2141 posts by 966 users from 5033 posts by 3298 users. I think we should just be able to filter out what we want to ignore. So we just have tags on all types of posts we can use when we submit and when we sort by new we can filter out topics or search by topic. So if i dont want to see ai links anything people tag as ai wont pop up. I see 45 minutes of submissions on the first page. This is fine. Learn to read better?
