Portable 1MV X-ray system combines Cockcroft–Walton with Van de Graaff dome
lanl.govWhat is the equipment at [1] in the video? It looks like a huge room of large centrifugal blowers not connected to any ductwork. Is that some random AI-generated picture? From Los Alamos National Laboratory?
For comparison, here are some large centrifugal blowers from The New York Blower Company.[2] They're a standard industrial item, but unrelated to X-ray machines.
That picture certainly looks AI generated as that machinery appears fictitious. And what is the little house in the center? Control room? Guard booth? It's nonsense for sure. Disappointing.
I did a search for the picture. Here it is on Alamy Stock Photos.[1] There it's supposedly a cooling water supply system.
And here it is on Dreamstime.[2] There, it's supposedly a Diesel generator.
Here it is on Alamy again, from a different viewpoint.[3] Here, it's supposedly a "copper crushing plant", a ball mill. That's a video where the point of view changes. It's not a ball mill. Alamy misfiled it with other pictures of real ball mills, which look quite different.
Source seems to be something called "Media Whale Stock".
This is embarrassing. LANL used to be a famously competent organization. Now they're shipping fake pictures.

Very cool. I have a ~750 kV VDG that sits around gathering dust in the garage because it's such a pain to keep the moving parts aligned and running smoothly. Might have to retrofit it with a C-W stack.
How much you want for it?
It's not an easy thing to box up and ship, unfortunately. Also, another problem (and another incentive to strip the hardware and stuff the column with diodes and capacitors) is that it has seen a lot of salt air exposure from a nearby reef tank sump. In short, you don't want this particular one.
It is pretty similar to this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/167962146153 -- a bit bigger, and it originally cost about the same.
