Ask HN: Those who quit tech, moved back home, what do you do?
Especially those who quit tech and went back from western countries to their (non-western) homeland, what do you do now? Are you happier than before? What are the reasons you left? I quit software, though I never made it very far in it it was my profession for 16 years. I'm a corrections officer now. My new career is drastically less stressful. Interesting. I was a LEO, moved gradually into infosec. I think the stresses are different, but LEO was way more actively stressful. Atleast you are less likely to get shot at in infosec, that probably helps with the stress I want to believe. What state? I didn't exactly quit tech: I quit big tech and moved back home. Now I freelance, and I'm happier than I've ever been. There's a certain joy to being with family in an environment everyone is familiar with and has a history in, which no kind of emigration can replicate. I like to imagine that they also quit reloading this domain.
