Ask HN: What's your opinion on a VR/XR business?

2 points by izwasm a month ago · 2 comments · 1 min read

A friend suggested that I join them in a VR/XR business, It’s not actually a formal business yet, the company hasn’t even been legally established, but they have developed a solution. He told me that three people have contacted him about buying the solution (though they didn’t want to pay all the fees), and one wanted a partnership. They haven’t done any marketing yet, but users are finding the website online.

I’ll join anyway, but I want to know what the market value is and what really makes a VR/XR business successful, one that could allow me to quit my job.

I've had my domain and some business ideas ready for 20 years now (since Rainbow's End).

Still waiting for the ecosystem to mature a little more and the "early" movers to consolidate the APIs. Also, I love my job so not super motivated.

The only business "secret sauces" I know are creativity (market value depends on what you're selling) and implementation (if what you're selling works). Customers will follow.

IMO: Go For It! The more the space matures, the better for all of us.
