Eight Sleep: Making the Pod outage-proof
eightsleep.comNo idea why a mattress would need a server and an app... still, I find that they rolled out a fix quite quickly. They acknowledged [1] the issue just a couple of days ago and now they have a fix? At most companies, they would open a ticket, promise to work on it at some point, then never actually ship it as other features are more important, so hats off to them for actually following through and shipping a fix so quickly...
Which also makes me wonder, if it was this easy, why didn't anyone think of this before? Or most likely they did, but they always deprioritized it.
So many features for resiliency and offline mode never get implemented because we are working on shiny features like integrating an AI chatbot and whatnot...

The server and app are not for your benefit. They are for the companies benefit in then being able to justify extracting $17/month rent from you for what previously would have been a one time purchase.
That's how they disable your bed when you don't pay the bill.
It’s impressive how much impact better visibility can have on resilience. I’ve had good results using Uptrace’s tracing features to see how failures propagate through different services.
