Ask HN: Why are Meta's Glasses being so openly promoted by popular Tech Blogs?
They are creepy, dystopian and dangerous but are being promoted as so wonderful. I can't figure. Popular tech blogs do not promote products because of the goodness of their hearts, but for money. Placing an article in a tech blog costs between $20,000 and $30,000, depending on the blog’s reputation, and everybody can do it. So, it is not that the tech blogs are particularly enthusiastic about the Glasses; it’s more that Meta is throwing money left and right to promote them. It's like product placement in TV shows and movies. It's all about creating or reinforcing the illusion that something is popular. Money. And for the most part, tech blogs cannot just promote stuff that doesn't spy on you, because there is not much of it left to promote. The hardware is genuinely interesting All commercialized tech is creepy, dystopian and dangerous. Hasn't ever stopped tech reviewers, or tech customers.
