Ask HN: Has Hacker News been unusable on Chrome for anyone else?
I'm running into a frustrating issue where Google Chrome slows down or goes into a loading state while reading big threads on hackernews. (For example this post: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=41002195 or this post:https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=45427982 )
All I have to do is start clicking the minimize button on threads and my entire PC stops responding.
I have a really beefy setup so its most likely not from there
Has anyone else run into this?
So far been able to replicate on: - Windows 11, Chrome v140.0.7339.208
Also tried incognito mode in Chrome, disabled all extensions.
Interestingly, doesn't happen on macOS. Works for me (using Vivaldi on Linux Mint) yeah Firefox or Vivaldi don't have this issue! Works fine for me Win 11 Chrome 140.0.7339.208 8 gb ram i5 Oh wow. I'm on 64GB, Ryzen 5. Intel for the w :) /s On a more serious note; chatgpt thinks that it may be caused by GPU driver issues - which would explain why your setup is having a harder time (my gpu is intel standard whatever...) so it suggests turning off hardware acceleration. I have no way to test this, so do what you want with it. Chatgpt link https://chatgpt.com/share/68e2c648-c5c0-8003-bcc9-49785c0131...
