Show HN: Draftsmith – a desktop AI blog writing app (no subscriptions, BYOK)
I built a desktop app called Draftsmith because I was tired of juggling prompts in ChatGPT and paying monthly fees for tools I used only occasionally.
• Write blog posts faster: idea -> structured draft in ~15 minutes.
• Desktop app (Windows, macOS, Linux). No cloud sync, no subscriptions.
• Bring your own API key (OpenAI/Anthropic/etc.). You see and control costs.
• Keeps your writing style consistent (no "generic AI fluff").
• One-time purchase - you own it.
Why a desktop app? I wanted something I could actually own, not rent. No recurring bills, no SaaS lock-in. Just download it, plug in your key, and write.
I built this in 3 weeks as a small bet — a focused tool that does one thing well.
