Origin and history of 'deprecate'

Heavily used in Operating systems and related contexts, for features which in future will be unavailable, but for now continuance on sufferance is tolerated.

E.G. on linux ifconfig -> ip command, some crossover, then ifconfig having been deprecated for some years, is removed.
