Ask HN: Should I pay for marketing to this B2C SaaS product? (~8% paying rate)

I built an app for myself to apply for jobs and I got an offer. Later I turned it into a desktop app with a $10 subscription per month. Current I got around 300 users and 8% of them paid. If including churned ones that is 10%, which is expected since these users have found a job.

Currently, this is purely organic. I'm wondering if I should start to pay for some ads or influencers to boost it...let me know your thoughts!

Here is the app: https://jobhuntr.fyi

Hire some UGC people, You'll surely go viral with a TikTok with the title "this app got me a 400k/yr job" or something like that. It legit has the potential for that, you just have to find whoever will deliver on that for you.

If you have to pay, then do it, it'll be worth it, there are lots of apps just like this, you have to win the mindshare game.

This is very inspiring...thanks! I tried to DM some micro-influencers on TK and IG yesterday. Hopefully they would reply! Do you know anywhere else might be a great place to get UGC?

If we assume your LTV is $30 and a 5% conversion rate (since your organic traffic is likely to be higher intent than people who clicked an ad), a visitor is worth $1.50 on average.

The questions are:

1. What's your LTV?

2. What's the conversion rate of ad-generated traffic?

3. Can you buy clicks for less than $1.50 (or whatever the real number is)?

Hey simantel! Thanks for these great questions. I just revisited my stats:

    - LTV is around $23 - I haven't tried ads, so this really not sure

Looks like I need to aim for $1 per click.

Also I calculated my website visit to download conversion is around 13%, then download to paying is around 12% in the last month...Are these good stats?

If your visitor-to-paid conversion rate is actually 1.5% (12% of 13%), with an LTV of $23 you break even at $0.34 per per click.

And again, I'd expect the conversion rate of ad-driven traffic to be quite a bit lower than that from organic word of mouth traffic, but worth testing out!

Yeah, much lower...tested a tiktok ads today. $0.45 per click. 13.83, 0 download so far...
