I agree that this is a story about a blog post. Having them both up I'd say that they complement each other pretty well. Cloudflare blocked the attack, so they have all the meaningful data, but that post is basically an ad for Cloudflare's services with a lot of details and good graphs. The Ars article provides a bit more context (like for instance why UDP attacks are effective flooding tools, not requiring handshakes), and it removes some of the chest thumping Cloudflare is doing. And I say that being a big fan of Cloudflare.
