Show HN: ELI5 – Chrome Extension – Get anything explained like you're 5 for free
chromewebstore.google.comI hate switching tabs to search for something or to ask an LLM about it, so I made a Chrome extension that allows me to select text on any website and get an ELi5 explanation right on that page.
You can ask further questions and even take an area screenshot to get an explanation for it.
It works on all websites except when you try to use it on a PDF since PDF doesn't open the same way as a website would on Chrome. But you can still ask questions and take screenshots.
I built it as a useful project for myself but I thought it might be useful to other people too and hence launched it on the Chrome Webstore.
I'm using Gemini's API and hosting it on Railway. I'm using their free tier but if a huge traffic comes (although that will be a nice problem to have), I'll upgrade to a paid tier to scale up. Or maybe I'll just jump to the 'Bring-Your-Own-Keys' format.
I'm open to suggestions and unbiased reviews.
