It was this whole weird thing around no posters from west being physically available and local posters being sourced locally. But also, all the weird contrarian artists were not allowed to practice their art unless sanctioned by the state. So, a lot of them who would normally do classic art, would instead do posters, which were overlooked for the most part.

I know this because I’m here in Poland, have family collecting these posters since 70’s and yeah, they’re totally incompatible with marketing/advertising practices. Also, saw them all over Lucasarts building in SF.

Highly recommmend looking up my two favorites “Pągowski” and “Wałkuski”. Really, movie marketing concerns were of no interests to these artists, this only just happened to be a coincidence.

Yup, Poland and Czechia (and probably other countries in the area) had and still have some fantastic graphic designs. I always look for graffiti and posters when I visit.

These are unique and imaginative but (at least to me) they're simply ugly.
