I used to send 1 email to myself on January 1st every year and schedule it for the 1/1 next year using FutureMe. This year when I wanted to do this, FutureMe started charging $9/year because had I already used the 3 free emails, which is an ok price if you use the service often, but why would I pay $9 for 1 email every year when I can build myself an alternative. So I built EmailToFuture - free app to send emails to your future self.

How it works: Simply write a message to your future self, select a delivery date (from tomorrow to decades ahead), and your message will be delivered directly to your inbox at the scheduled time.

The tech stack is Next.js, Supabase for auth/db and Resend API for email delivery. I've kept the UI minimal and focused on user experience.

Would love feedback from the community! What features would make this more useful for you?

> Is my email content private? Yes! Your emails are stored securely and are not accessible to anyone else. Your privacy is our priority

Ultimately I think emails need to be in plain text. Are they stored that way? Will anyone else ever have access to them. Do you use a third party for mailing?

Yes, thats right, the emails are stored in plaintext in the database. The database has the row level security rules configured so that users only have access to their own data.

It uses Resend transactional API which, based on their docs doesnt store the contents after the email is sent.

Hey! I am mondov and I spent past month working on this side project of mine. This is my first full stack project that is available to anyone, so any feedback is appreciated.

How will you make this make any money for itself for the next 50 years?

You could get a dozen sign ups tonight and now you’re on the hook to deliver their email in 50 years time. For free.

There are some features which could be included in the paid plan in the future. Also the tech stack can handle a couple thousand emails every month without any operational cost. In the best case if a lot of users sign up, I can still restrict access to existing users to keep the service operational for them.

The limits and pricing can of course change in the future.

The goal is for the users to be able to send some number of free emails (currently not limited) every year or month unlike futureme which provides just 3 emails for free in total, then charging $9/year even if user only sends 1 email per year.
