Hey HN, I built Promptly, a macOS app that lets you use any LLM (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, OLLama) anywhere with a simple hotkey. Highlight text, press a shortcut, and edit or generate content instantly—either by typing or using voice input.

There's also a shortcut to jump straight into voice mode and it'll auto-detect when you're finished to execute the task.

I made this because I found myself constantly switching between apps and sites to use AI to edit tweets, start documents off, and reword slack messages and wanted something native, fast, and frictionless.

There’s no cloud processing—just direct API calls with your own keys (or no keys, just Ollama models).

I’d love feedback—what do you think? Would this fit into your workflow? Anything missing that would make it more useful?

I was looking for something like this, but $40 is way too much, particularly for something with so few features. One feature I'd like to see is to be able to save prompts that I can just select from a context menu. For example, I'd like to be able to highlight a long article and have my custom summarizer prompt run with a click of a button. Or have my custom grammar proofreader run on a comment, etc.
