Hello,

Does a tool exist for showing your appreciation to an open source project with just a text message?

No donations, just a comment, a text.

A place where people can comment how an open source project help them in everyday life, why they love using this tool and so on.

All the comments are public. It's not private like sending an email to the open source maintainer.

In short, the answer to your question is that it's social media. It's always social media.

Unfortunately, in this case it's twitter in particular, and now maybe Bluesky.

I worked on open source projects for years, and resisted as much as I could. But all of the communication besides technical discussion happens on Twitter. This includes networking between devs, quick feature requests, examples of work being done with the libraries, and also plenty of shout-outs and words of appreciation. Somehow even a bunch of technical support via screenshots. It's also where I get around half of my clients as a freelancer.

Yeah but it's hard to find such specific stuff on social media.

This tool is like a guest book that people can write when they leave the guest house. These messages can be read by new guest and give inspiration or joy.

But maybe it doesn't exist and I should create it.
