Ask HN: How to get Braintree Sales to answer?

1 points by mgpalmer a year ago · 4 comments · 1 min read

I work at a medium-sized NGO in germany. We've been collecting donations via a Paypal business account for years but now want to use the Braintree https://www.braintreepayments.com/ API to offer recurring donation options. We already process a large amount of recurring donations via SEPA processing and want to expand that to allow Paypal as a payment method. The sandbox and API of Braintree seem fine - but the Braintree Sales team is ghosting me.

I've called the Paypal business support many times and will always be told it's not their area but they will forward the request. The only other option is to use a form on the website, which I have done. No reply, no nothing.

Does anyone have similar experiences? Is there a nonofficial way to get their attention? I don't understand how a "sales" team can just leave business on the table like this.

Do you really want to have their attention? Do you really still want to get your donations through a service that makes you beg them for an answer, and still not getting any? And you want to put your NGO's livelihood on this company? Are you sure that you thought this through?

I am loathe to be a customer of Paypal and all its shady subcompanies - but they're the most-known online payment provider so we don't have a choice, and Braintree's APIs are more capable then Paypal's own.

If they're this useless when you're trying to give them money, how do you think they're going to perform when you need something that costs them money e.g. customer support?

You're right. And Paypal's business support hotline, which I am now intimately familiar with, is already very bad and their backend merchant portal is a bad joke - I found dozens of bugs, untranslated strings, weird workflows...amazing what you can get away with when you're a monopoly :(
