Ask HN: Opening Google Meet on Firefox slows down the entire browser
Recently, I can't seem to join standup calls through firefox. I really don't want to switch to chrome. But seems like I have to. It works fine for me in Firefox on macOS. Many participants. No slowdowns. Try running it in a Private Window, and/or with all extensions disabled? What about installing the PWA of Meet using Chrome, and using Chrome only for that? It's still Chrome I do use Chrome for those very few sites that are difficult to use with Firefox either because of my privacy minded add-ons or because their developers did something that works only in Chrome. Nevertheless my primary browser is still Firefox, with a hundred of open tabs in different windows in different virtual desktops. There is nothing wrong with that. I open Chrome, use the site, close Chrome. ...yes. In a very limited single browser window, that you only use for one website. That, or you can hope that Google treats Firefox better (it won't) or Mozilla is able to keep up with Chrome's changes (it won't) or just use another meeting app (often not an option). So... Chrome it is. Choose your battles and all that. Or at least Chromium. Any of the Chrome derivatives, including open source builds, would probably work fine. so whats the question?
