Pilet Open Source Portable Computer
youtube.comI really hate the ergonomics and quirky design choices for this thing. Are we trying to build a computer, or the successor to the "Bop-It!"? I understand the latter may be more attractive as a kickstarter, or a YouTube thumbnail. But in that respect, I can't help but feel all these modern indie Pi/etc UMPCs are designed to be looked at, rather than used.
Your desktop keyboard is not aligned to a perfect grid, your smartphone keyboard is not aligned to a perfect grid. Did the makers ever consider there may be a reason for that?
This Pilet looks interesting. Still early days though.
Probably quite useful for makers, developers, and tech enthusiasts. It has a Raspberry Pi5 or CM5 in it. Fully open source, the Pilet seems to be customizable and to be available in multiple form factors. I personally like the tablet form with the attaches keyboard beneath it (though I hope that it is nicer to type on than it looks in the pictures.
They are launching a Kickstarter soon. I'm apprehensively excited.
Dang... I should have checked before posting. There were quite a few people who already posted about the Pilet. But the video is new.
Here are some more infos about this: https://soulscircuit.com/pilet
This is now on Kickstarter.
Backed for two 7" units and hoping that they will have a keyboard for that size as an add-on at the end of the project.
