I'd point to Seabrook One (and the missing Two) for why we didn't keep building nuclear reactors as opposed to TMI.

That is, trying to build a nuclear reactor reliably causes a financial meltdown. It doesn't matter whether or not the public is accepting of it if investors think it too expensive and too risky to build.

I've seen people claim we that nuclear waste is somehow solved... I'll believe it when Hanford [0] isn't leaking anymore and/or we've solved the Not Near My Highways problem of transporting it to a better location.
