Ask HN: Advice for bootstraping an Open Source project with NFT based funding

1 points by rogerthirty a year ago · 4 comments · 1 min read

Short: We want to lift software licensing to the Crypto level and enable all developers to generate NFTs for their developments. This would scale blockchain adoption to the next level.

What: Developing a Smart Contract solution for Software Licensing called Open Token Compensation License (OCTL - https://license-token.com) .

Goal: Developers getting paid in Crypto when their projects are applied commercially. Revenue sharing via blockchain between developers transparent possible. Version V1 is coded and interested projects are onboarded.

Funding: Printed an NFT jigsaw puzzle with unique 9750 pieces for funding the further development of the project. Used the smart contract code text and the text of the license.

Advice needed: How do we market the NFTs to secure the funding.

How do we sell funding NFTs. All Tips and recommendations welcome.

You don't. All developers I know are both satisfied with their current licenses and convinced all cryptocurrency is a scam. You cannot penetrate this market because you are not solving anything and have no legal precedent to promote.

Thanks for the feedback- Yes - but Open Source Donations is begging and begging is not really sustainable... 95% of the projects get abandoned because of the lack of funding.... how to wrap and market that?

Crypto payments for software licensing isn’t the worst idea I’ve heard, but pretty sure the NFTs-as-free-money ship has sailed.

    Thank you for your feedback.

Yes.. no NFTS are not for the free money thing. Key idea is to use them for source code that has value. It is to make the whole Open Source development that one can share the code, but commercial use still requires a license. Like the Server Side License of MongoDB... You have further ideas?
