Trump picks Musk ally Jared Isaacman to head NASA
reuters.comThat headline is silly. It should be "Trump picks Jared Isaacman to head NASA."
I like the part about how Musk has used his close proximity to the president-elect to discuss missions to Mars and other space exploration matters that could boost SpaceX.
Is that a bad thing? Who else is in the running? So we don't want to go to Mars or the moon in case we boost SpaceX?
Going to Mars isn't necessarily a high priority for government funding if we are looking to trim the govt payroll by 2 million employees. With such a deficit and debt, it's kind of a silly endeavor. Musk can raise all the money he needs out of his net wealth.
> So we don't want to go to Mars or the moon in case we boost SpaceX?
Maybe. The entire world came together to stop the Nazi regime just as they were on the cusp of spaceflight, it wouldn't be unprecedented to reject one man's ideology because it supersedes important politics to play power games that benefit no one. It would be especially ironic if all that government pork Elon promises to cut ends up going to even lower ROI investments, like subsidizing one of Elon's companies for a concept he has no intention of delivering.
America, the country, has quite a few knives in it's back courtesy of Mr. Musk. It wouldn't shock me if popular opinion post-Twitter has turned against Elon. It almost feels like justice.
