Ask HN: What Could the New "Doge Department" Mean for Government and Tech?

Trump just announced a new "Department of Government Efficiency" (DOGE) led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, aiming to make government operations more efficient. Dogecoin’s price crazily jumped after the news!

I’m wondering:

- What changes could Musk and Ramaswamy realistically bring to government with this department, aside from firing staff? - Could this idea spread to other countries in Europe? - Is Dogecoin's reaction an indicator of anything deeper in Blockchain, or is this just another hype cycle? - What could this mean for tech companies and businesses?

Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts!

All you need to know about this, is that the clowns professing about "government efficiency" have just announced that they're going to create a second government department tasked with keeping the government efficient. Sounds super efficient, two departments to do the same thing.

As with everything it's an excuse to deregulate pesky things like the environment, public safety, etc.

I expect alot of software based automation tools to be built.

If you can catch that wave in some way you will benefit immensely.

More billionaire back-slapping with the great orange bigot? Fostering human-oompaloompa relations?

I dunno, that's the best I could come up with.

They will probably only cut staff until unliked agencies can't fulfill their tasks and convince Trump to deregulate everything.

I expect more Boeings and more East Palestines in 10-15 years.
