Who is marking legitimate emails as spam? N = 1.2M experiment
emaildiscussions.comI eventually had to mark the Red Cross as spam. They did not honor repeated unsubscribe requests.
If somebody I've done business with is sending me emails that I don't want, I'll use the unsubscribe button. They nearly always honor that (probably because they use an email provider that does the work). I consider it no harm and no foul.
But it's no surprise that some people just click "report spam" and be done with it. One would hope that GMail, etc are aware of that.
I mostly use gmail since I think it's quite a bit better than most other options, so I'm the most familiar with gmail. And I know that when you click "spam" in gmail it will ask you if you actually mean to unsubscribe.
For my business, I've never received any complaints that someone unsubscribed and still received another email. But most people probably wouldn't bother emailing me to complain if it did happen.
I also mark "legitimate" senders who don't have a functional unsubscribe as spam.
