Ask HN: How is everyone doing in this market?
Is it just me or is the market been pretty rough for job listings and getting just about any application through? I have some time off currently and I'm hopeful I can turn things around with my work, but I need to make sure I have a decent backup plan and it's tough to find just about anything at the moment.
- 15+ years full stack engineer I think pointing this out will only make it worse. A harsh job market means employers don’t have to try to keep their employees because employees will be less willing to risk leaving and they can be replaced with more desperate applicants quickly and cheaply if they do. Posting this stuff on HN is just advertising to everyone out there that the top is reclaiming/can reclaim its power. You should probably limit your hiring woes to private conversations. What’s the point in anonymous commiseration anyway? I got thirteen full stack job offers the other day but I’m holding out for something better. <_< Outside of the most psychotic organizations, this just isn't how organizations work. You want to keep your best people, no matter the market. You don't want to drop your hiring bar to hire someone "desperate". A lot of FAANG engineers have claimed to struggle to land jobs at "lesser" companies because the recruitment team rightly realized it would just be a stepping stone for them to get back into a "better" company.
