I don't own a phone and don't have Telegram, but will defend to the death their right to build it!

That being said, glad he was released and this has been peacefully resolved.

Great statement by him. Maybe things aren't so bad after all! :)

He'd have been a fool had he not made it:

“Telegram’s abrupt increase in user count to 950M caused growing pains that made it easier for criminals to abuse our platform,” admits CEO Pavel Durov.

Telegram has many side and I won't criticise the tool, but as a platform it's been the tool of choice for distributing seriously f'd up CSAM material in recent months.

I used to consult on things digital with LEO's some time past and still keep an eye on "outreach activity" - services that upload user porn get waves of videos with CSAM type thumbnails that redirect to pages asking users to log into Telegram channels - frontending a swath of cyber crime from credential sniffing to blackmail, to straight up legit child abuse and trafficking (with a segue through "virtual CSAM" and pig butchering).

If not Telegram then some other platforms would be used for the social networking | spruiking side - but either way there's a need for moderation to keep the digital streets clean.

That was really cool. He didn’t vilify anyone or seem angry. But he said his point. Hard to do that.
