Verizon to buy Frontier in $20B deal to boost fiber network in U.S.
reuters.comBut Frontier purchased Verizon FIOS in my area years ago. I wonder if they are buying it back for less than they sold it orginally?
That was a $10.5B deal

but the new deal includes landline customers like myself. For a long time I suffered with 2Mbps DSL but a few years ago Frontier ran fiber to a node not too far from my house that gives me 20Mbps ADSL2. A tech told me that could offer me VDSL if I lived much closer to the node. I'm paying more than customers of Charter down the road pay for much worse service.
That said, I'm a hard customer to serve because the phone line is buried by the road (would have to be dug up to be upgraded) and the power line goes through a wet meadow which is beaver habitat. Every 5-10 years the power company has to go in there for maintenance which would be a good time to run a fiber if everything was well organized.
